Resolution against Prigozhin failed to attract voters for Engel

Democratic Congressman Elliot Engel lost in the New-York primary race against African-American candidate Jamaal Bowman scoring only 35 percent  of  vote against 62 percent for Bowman.

Shortly before the primary elections, Engel put forward a resolution against a Russian businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin that, as he hoped, would attract him the votes by African-American community.

However, the opposite has happened. The resolution encouraging sanctions against Prigozhin set up for discussion in early June resulted in a backlash among the American voters.

Engel was wrong to believe African-American voters were ignorant about what is going on in the world. It turned out the black electorate appears to see Prigozhin as a defender of their rights and freedoms, just like their fellow brothers on the African continent.

Thus, Yevgeny Prigozhin has repeatedly denounced the harmful influence of Western countries on subequatorial Africa, expressed his support for the people of the CAR, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and other African countries. To the extent that an image of him as a critic of the neocolonial policy of the EU and US has grown.

Finally, in an open letter by Prigozhin released right before the primaries, the Russian businessman clearly stated that the United States support global terrorism and their policies are detrimental to national interests of other countries, not taking into account the principles of international relations.

As for Jamaal Bowman, commenting on his victory, he highlighted that the world had changed and so the Congress needed to change, too. This is why his team bet on the fight for racial and economic justice, the absence of which in the United States had been pointed out by Yevgeny Prigozhin
