Women set to spoil female prisoners
WOMEN in Harare will on February 1 come together in a charity event called Heart of Woman Dance to be held at the Hellenic Sports Club.
The event which is aimed at raising funds for female inmates at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison will be hosted to raise funds to spoil female prisoners during the Valentine’s season so they do not feel left out in the season of love.
“This first ever event is driven by our passion to unite women who believe in standing together to make our sisters in prisons feel loved too,” said Heart of a Woman Trust founding director Verna Zisengwe.
In an interview she told the Daily News that on the day this event sponsored by Pearl Tissues and Picadilly Water will run under the theme Dance for Love.
She said on the day the female attendees will be coached a dance by a professional female Zumba instructor named Cheny Babie.
“Heart of a Woman Trust is a charity organisation that is hugely concerned about female prisoners’ well-being.
“Valentine’s Day is a special day to show love and appreciate loved ones and because of this we stand by the notion that everyone deserves to be loved despite their condition or circumstances,” said Zisengwe.
She urged women to come in unity of purpose saying that the female inmates will also be a part of humankind and women have to know that after all everyone is a potential prisoner.
Zisengwe added that those attending are urged to pay US$5 or equivalent to be part of this life-changing mission.
“So far the response to this initiative from women all over has been so good that some have pledged to send their money although they are unable to attend,” she said.
“Let us not stigmatise our sisters in prison, instead let us show them love despite what they may have done wrong because it is not in our place to stand as judges.”
