Harare increases water production

HARARE City Council (HCC) has increased water production from 173 megalitres to 300 megalitres per day in a bid to improve supply in the city.

The local authority last Thursday announced a partial shutdown of Morton Jaffray Water Treatment Plant until Friday night to repair leaks at Warren Control Pump Station and installation of a main delivery valve on pump number 8.

In a statement, HCC said the shutdown was to allow for the installation of a pump at Warren Control Pump Station to match the improved water delivery capacity that is now averaging 300 million litres a day.

According to the Combined Harare Residents Association, water production at the Morton Jaffray was around 240 megalitres from 173 megalitres during the first week of April 2020. — CAROLINE CHIIMBA
