Council seizes executive’s car

CHITUNGWIZA Town Council seized a vehicle it had allocated to suspended human resources boss, Mary Rashamira Mukonyora, when she turned up for a disciplinary hearing last Saturday.

Mukonyora was recently suspended without benefits and ordered to surrender all council property after an internal audit report alleged that she misrepresented her official status since 2012. She was allegedly enjoying the benefits of a departmental head (grade 14) when in fact she was a sectional head (grade 13).

Chitungwiza spokesperson Lovemore Meya confirmed to the Daily News that council finally managed to repossess the Fortuner vehicle that Mukonyora was holding onto against the municipality’s orders.

“When Mukonyora came for hearing on Saturday, council clamped the Fortuner because it is council property and when she was served with a suspension letter, she was instructed to surrender all council property,” Meya said.

According to the audit report that focused on the period 2013 to October 2019, Mukonyora fraudulently received an acting allowance for the post of head human resources (grade 14), which was not on the council organogram at the time.
