Byo mayor appeals for Christmas donations

BULAWAYO mayor Solomon Mguni has appealed for donations for the 2021 Mayoral Christmas Cheer Fund.

In a virtual press conference this week, Mguni called on Bulawayo residents and Zimbabweans at large to remember the less privileged members of communities and to make an effort to help them experience a decent festive season despite prevailing hardships.

“I appeal to well-wishers to donate to our cause and spread love and compassion to the vulnerable. Charity is the act of extending love and kindness to others. This is a conscious decision made by the heart without expecting a reward,” said the mayor.

Mguni urged Zimbabweans to practice a culture of giving, which he said spreads light and contributes to more united communities and social cohesion.

“The greatest gift to our communities is making lives better by donations or charity work, and spreading light to the needy, in the process enlightening our souls,” he said.

The mayor said the Christmas Cheer Fund touches many lives and brings smiles to less fortunate households in the city, including child-headed families, the elderly as well as people with disabilities.

“Every year, the city of Bulawayo, through the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund, which is managed by a board of trustees, initiates a process of fundraising towards the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund to assist vulnerable members of society,” Mguni said.

“During this process, donations are received from well-wishers or stakeholders, so that the less privileged in the society smile during the festive season. I call upon you to support our cause,” he said.
