ZRP hunts killer drivers
THE Zimbabwe Republic Police is hunting for three drivers who were involved in hit-and-run accidents in Harare and Bulawayo.
In the first case, a police officer was killed when he was run over by a Mitsubishi Canter truck which was allegedly picking up passengers along Simon Muzenda Street, formerly Fourth Street, in the capital yesterday.
“The motorist was picking up passengers in the middle of the road and when approached by a police officer, he ran over the officer who died on the spot.
“The driver sped off after the incident and anyone with information pertaining to this matter must report at the
nearest police station,” the police said in a statement last night.
Meanwhile, a 28-year-old man was struck and killed by a blue truck in Morningside, Bulawayo, on Friday evening.
The driver of the truck with registration numbers AAC 9290 did not stop. The victim died on the spot. A day earlier, a pedestrian was knocked down by a Toyota Granvia and was taken to Shangani Hospital where he was dumped at the entrance.
“The victim’s condition deteriorated and he passed away after being transferred to Mpilo Hospital,” the police said.
Hit-and-run cases, the police said, were on the increase in the country.
