THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) is running a mop up November examination registration exercise for primary and secondary education in a bid to accommodate those that had failed to register when the initial exercise closed last month.
Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Taungana Ndoro said the exercise that started on Monday to Friday is to allow those that failed to register when registration for the public examinations closed on April 14 to do so.
“It’s a mop up exercise being done by Zimsec from 8 to 12 May. Those that failed to register for examinations this year should go to their schools between 8 and 12 May and they can register,” he said.
“Social media had something to that effect, but distorted some of the facts; it’s a registration process, just like the normal registration process of the Zimsec registration for Grade 7, Form 4 and Form 6, there were those that failed to register because registration was done during the holidays.” He said some failed to register during the holidays so when schools open from 8 to 12 they will be able to register irrespective of their reasons for their failure to register during the initial phase of the exercise.
The social media message suggested that the exercise was aimed at assisting vulnerable learners to sit for the examinations. “Colleagues, may we share the SMS … with stakeholders so that vulnerable learners benefit.
Gr 7, F4 and F6 2023 (learners) who did not register for public examination because of poverty are requested to go to their schools and have their details captured using the template already in schools so that the state assists them to sit for their examinations in liaison with Zimsec.
‘‘It is urgent; the information should be in by tomorrow afternoon. CCWs, village heads, councillors, churches, etc, to kindly assist,” read the message that circulated on various social media platforms. —New Ziana
