Zimbabwe clinch T20I series as rain washes out final match

ZIMBABWE secured a one-nil series victory over Ireland in the three-match T20 International series after rain washed out the final encounter at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday night.

Play started 45 minutes late due to a rain delay, reducing the match to 18 overs per side. Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and opted to field. Zimbabwe had a shaky start, losing Tadiwanashe Marumani (7) and Wessly Madhevere (0) within the first three overs, with just 18 runs on the board.

As is often the case, Sikandar Raza turned the tide with a brisk 34 off 27 balls, supported by Brian Bennett’s 16 off 19. Both fell to Gareth Delany in what proved to be his only over, leaving Zimbabwe at 67 for four in the 10th over.

Ryan Burl added a quick 17 off 13 before departing at 94 for five in the 14th over. Tony Munyonga contributed 26 off 19, while Tashinga Musekiwa was the most aggressive, finishing unbeaten on 26 off 17.

Zimbabwe posted a competitive 142 for six in 18 overs. Ireland faced a challenging chase on a tricky pitch with a slow, rain-affected outfield. However, the rain returned around 9.00pm, preventing any further play.

The match was officially abandoned at 9:37pm, sealing Zimbabwe’s well-earned series win. ZC
