Zim compensates Bippa farm owners

GOVERNMENT has initiated compensation payments to owners of 94 farms protected under Bilateral Investment Protection Agreements (Bippas), which were seized for resettlement under the land reform programme.

Minister of Finance Mthuli Ncube announced that out of the total US$146 million owed, US$20 million would be paid this year, with the remaining balance to be settled over four years. “I am pleased to announce that the compensation process has begun.

We believe that this process is crucial for building trust, honouring our commitments, and ensuring consistency with our constitution as we address Zimbabwe’s debt challenge,” Ncube said.
