Turkiye feeds thousands in Ramadan drive

TURKIYE has launched a massive food distribution campaign across Zimbabwe, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of vulnerable families during the holy month of Ramadan.
Leading the charge, a high-level delegation from the Presidency of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye (Diyanet İşleri Başkanlığı) traversed the country, delivering essential supplies to communities often overlooked by urban-centric aid.
In a statement for the Turkiye embassy in Harare, “the initiative reached deep into regions including Norton, Shamva, Chitungwiza, Bindura, Mvurwi, Guruve, and Mutare”.
Beyond general community support, the programme extended its reach to specialised institutions, with the Jairos Jiri Association for Rehabilitation Centre in Harare receiving a significant consignment of food hampers to support its residents.
The scale of the intervention highlighted the deep diplomatic and social ties between Ankara and Harare.
The impact of the drive so far included over 2 000 food packages distributed to households containing essential staples to ensure nutritional security. 1 250 Iftar meals were provided to families in Harare, Norton, Buhera, and Mashonaland Central, allowing them to break their fast with dignity.
Five hundred additional Hampers are now set for distribution through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in the coming days.
The humanitarian effort is not limited to government agencies.
Several Turkish non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have joined the cause, mirroring the official delegation’s efforts to ensure that the spirit of Ramadan — centred on charity and compassion — is felt across all 10 provinces.
This surge in aid comes at a critical time for many Zimbabwean households facing economic pressures.
For the Turkish delegation, the mission is about more than just calories; it is about “strengthening the spirit of solidarity and sharing”.
The Turkish embassy and its partner institutions have signalled that this is not a one-off gesture.
As the holy month concluded, preparations were already shifting toward Eid al-Adha, with authorities promising further charitable activities to bolster food security and celebrate the upcoming festival with those in need.
“This ongoing commitment solidifies Türkiye’s role as a key developmental and humanitarian partner for Zimbabwe, proving that distance is no barrier to the “universal language of giving,” read a statement for the embassy.
