Transfer ban blocks TS Galaxy’s move for Isheanesu Mauchi

TS Galaxy’s January recruitment plans have ended in a stalemate, with a FIFA-imposed transfer ban scuttling the signing of Zimbabwean defender Isheanesu Mauchi.

Despite the Warriors’ international travelling to South Africa to replace Mamelodi Sundowns-bound Khulumani Ndamane, the deal collapsed when the club could not prove that the registration sanctions had been lifted.

The Rockets remain hamstrung by a legal dispute with Liberian player Jegbay Morris Konneh. The club owes a principal debt of approximately US$125,000 (R2,2 million), plus interest.

While an instalment plan was discussed, Galaxy reportedly missed the first payment deadline last week.

Under FIFA rules, the ban will remain active until the full amount is confirmed in Konneh’s account, leaving coach Adnan Beganovic with a depleted squad for the remainder of the season.

For a moment, it looked like TS Galaxy had found the perfect solution to their defensive woes. Mauchi, fresh off an impressive AFCON campaign with Zimbabwe, was ready to swap Simba Bhora for the Betway Premiership.

The 23-year-old defender reportedly took a firm stance during negotiations, reluctant to put pen to paper without documented proof that Galaxy’s FIFA registration ban had been lifted. It was a guarantee the club couldn’t provide.

The talented defender, who featured in the Soccer Stars of the Year calendar for the past two seasons, has caught the attention of several Betway Premiership clubs. Last season, he was also on the radar of cash-rich Scotland FC.

He turned down a move to the reigning Zimbabwe champions, opting to stay at Simba. His defensive prowess was crucial to Simba Bhora’s third-place finish, helping them secure 18 clean sheets and earning him a consecutive Soccer Stars of the Year nomination.

With the transfer window still open in Zimbabwe, it remains to be seen where the highly sought-after defender will play his football next season. Mauchi is versatile and can also operate as a defensive midfielder.
