by Cloud Fusire

FRESH from crowned Harare Classic champion, bodybuilder Gideon Teguru has since shifted his focus to Mr Ironman Zimbabwe championship which is scheduled next month.

This comes after Teguru was crowned 2021 Harare classic senior men bodybuilding champion on Saturday at Zimbabwe College of Music.

He made a huge upset by dethroning the defending champion Vincent “Vince Cutter” Kandiyero to clinch the title for the first time in his career.

Mr Ironman Zimbabwe championships were last held in 2017 with Blessing “Hunkybie” Saunyama of Mutare winning the senior men’s bodybuilding title at the Bulawayo Theatre in Bulawayo.

Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness secretary-general Quite Shangai told the Daily News yesterday that the tournament is set to take place early next year.

“We have made efforts to revive Mr Ironman Zimbabwe tournament which has been off the radar for over two years. We are confident that early next year we will host the event,” said Shangai

However, Teguru is leaving nothing to chance as he has already hit the gym in preparation for one of the most prestigious Mr Ironman Zimbabwe championships.

“The momentum in my camp is high and I’m in good shape to win any tournament at the moment.

“So with the return of Mr Ironman Zimbabwe, we have no time to waste or to rest, that’s why we have decided with my sponsor Mr Never Ndemera and Coach Nunurai Masosonere to start the preparations now.

“We know it’s one of the biggest tournaments in Zimbabwe and I’m very confident that if I continue to work hard and keep my body in good shape, I will win it,” said Teguru.

“Gidza” as he is affectionately known in the bodybuilding circles has already shifted training camps from Life Fitness Club to Family fitness gym club where his coach Nunurai Masosonere “Shumba” is based to have enough time to prepare for the championships.

“For the past years l have been training under Life Fitness club, but my sponsor Mr Ndemera decided that l move close to my coach Masosonere who also happens to work and train at Family Fitness gym club.

“So for convenience and focus as a team, l will be training with the Family Fitness gym club going forward,” added Teguru.

Teguru’s sponsor Never Ndemera vowed to continue financially supporting the athlete as he seeks to reach his full potential in bodybuilding.

“What we are looking for is to make sure that if we see young people with the talent we see them through. As a person with a passion for bodybuilding, when l saw this young man Gideon Teguru, l could see his potential and his commitment to the sport.

“So l decided that l can help him financially for him to achieve his dream and at the weekend he won Harare classic championships.

“He has a huge potential and l think the sky is the limit for the young man. We will try to make sure that he participates in all the competition locally and abroad going forward,” said Ndemera.
