Scott meets Mayweather, made brand ambassador

ZIMBABWE’S biggest gold buyer, Pedzisai “Scott” Sakupwanya has met boxing icon, Floyd Mayweather Jr, who has made him an ambassador of his brand.

Scott met the flamboyant retired boxer in Dubai at the weekend where he was due to have a megabucks exhibition match which was cancelled after the death of President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Mayweather, who ended his professional career without being defeated, had been due to fight his training partner and rival,  Don Moore in that exhibition match.

Speaking to the Daily News from Dubai yesterday, Sakupwanya said he was excited to have met Mayweahter Jr in person — and this despite the heavy security that is always surrounding him.

“I was stunned when he called for me from a large group of fans who included Africans and other races.

“Just seeing him at close quarters would have been enough for me. But to be invited to his suite almost drove me bonkers.

“Mayweather Jr is passionate about young people and believes so much in black people,” said Sakupwanya.

“During our meeting, I gave him President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s scarf with ouf national colours, which he gladly accepted and immediately put on.

“He said was happy to have me as a brand ambassador of his  brand -The Money Team (TMT) – something that I was not expecting.

“I would like to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the party for giving me the believe that goes beyond just being in business.

“I never thought in the wildest of my imaginations that I would rub shoulders with such a global sporting icon. This has been made possible by empowerment,” Sakupwanya said.

Sakupwanya is among the influential young business people in the country and has been honoured by the government for his role in mining.

He holds a record for being the biggest gold buyer through his company, Better Brands Jewellery.
