Pomona dumpsite fire suppressed
THE Harare City Council (HCC) has successfully put out the Pomona Dumpsite fire which had lasted for more than three weeks.
This comes as the city had come under fire for failing to control the recurring Pomona Dumpsite fire with residents’ associations saying this was indicative of a poor disaster risk management plan.
“Council advises that the fire at Pomona Dumpsite was successfully suppressed on August 31. Preparations to resume normal operations at the dumpsite are in progress upon certification by (the Environmental Management Agency) Ema.
“Meanwhile, a blitz operation to clear backlogs that emanated from the two-week garbage non collection period commenced on Saturday August 29. The blitz is being conducted as per attached schedule. When done, normal door-to-door collections will resume. In the meantime, collected garbage is being disposed of at Golden Quarry,” HCC said.
