Mutevedzi appointed new chief magistrate

THE Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has appointed Munamato Mutevedzi as the new chief magistrate.

Mutevedzi’s appointment is effective from March 27.

He has been acting in the position for a year, doubling up as deputy secretary in charge of legal services in the JSC.

JSC spokesperson Brian Nkiwane confirmed the appointment, but could not shed more details.

“I can confirm that the appointment has been made, but that is as far as l can say at the moment,” Nkiwane said when contacted for a comment.

The position of chief magistrate was effectively vacant in February when Mishrod Guvamombe resigned.

Guvamombe had been on suspension since early last year for alleged abuse of office — charges which were later withdrawn before plea.
