‘Engage CSOs in Covid-19 awareness campaigns’
HARARE Residents Trust (HRT) has called upon the central government to engage Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in awareness campaigns against coronavirus as some members of the society continue to exhibit ignorance on the pandemic.
This comes as people continue to queue at banks and shopping malls without maintaining the one metre distance, while others continue to carry on with their daily activities like vending in crowded places.
HRT said interviews they did with residents across Harare showed there was ignorance with regards to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Therefore, the government and other responsible authorities need to work on educating the citizenry on how the virus is spread, prevented and what key actions to take when suspecting information, while people also need to be made aware of the gravity of the situation at hand, and how deadly the virus is.
“The government needs to work with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in carrying out education and awareness campaigns.
“These campaigns can bridge the aforementioned knowledge gap and lives will be saved.”
HRT added that the outreach programmes can be undertaken in places like bus termini, market places and shopping centres where people are still congregating in large numbers.
