Mother, daughter die after drinking poison

A KENSINGTON woman and her daughter were on Thursday found dead in their bedroom in a case of suspected double suicide.

The duo is suspected to have drunk a poisonous substance which was found on the scene.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi,  confirmed the incident to Daily News yesterday saying the bodies have since been taken for post mortem.

“The ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police) is investigating a suspected suicide case where bodies of a woman (23) and her daughter (9) where found lying in a bed in a locked room with froth coming from their mouths.

“The room was locked from the inside and a 100ml bottle of… insecticide was recovered beside their bodies,” he said.

He said police were still investigating the matter and no suicide note was found at the scene.

Meanwhile, police in Matabeleland North are investigating a murder case where a Lupane man allegedly stabbed a fellow patron in a misunderstanding during a beer binge.

Nyathi said 28-year-old Host Mpofu is facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing to death Prince Ngwenya on the left side of the chest at Lupane’s Mathambo village on Wednesday over an undisclosed disagreement.

He is expected to appear in court today. By Andile Tshuma
