THE second edition of the Moonlight Pink Ribbons of Hope Half Marathon and Charity Run is on at Falcon Golf Club in Harare next month with more than 1 500 participants expected at the event.
According the organisers, the event, which is scheduled for September 13 and whose proceeds will go towards the treatment of cancer patients at various centres across the country, will feature the main 21km race, 10km race, 5km fun run, a 10km wheelchair race as well as an aerobics and Zumba session for fitness enthusiasts.
“As Moonlight we are going to have the 2nd edition of our Moonlight Cancer Trust Marathon we have got a dream to have a Zimbabwe that is cancer free.
“We have noticed that from our claims experience, a significant number of them are as a result of cancer and with this initiative, we are trying to mitigate against that.
“A large section of the populace are ignorant about what to do in the case of the occurrence of cancer and where to go and sometimes they don’t have the means to go for treatment, so as Moonlight, we want to mitigate against this as wellness is a big part of our business,” said Makina.
“We have already helped a number of cancer survivors and organisations that deal with cancer patients and we are committed to playing our part in contrib. uting to these initiatives.
“We are glad that we have a lot of corporates supporting this marathon and this year we hope we can help at least 10 organisations that deal with cancer issues.”
Moonlight Funeral Assurance public relations manager Noway Museba indicated that preparations for the event are on course.
“Preparations are at an advanced stage and we are preparing to host more than 1 500 athletes and 100 corporates that are coming to exhibit and support the initiative.
“As Moonlight we are glad that we have corporates that share the same vision and shared value and who are willing to give back to the society which we operate in,” said Museba.
“We have lined up activities to cater for all, from the half marathon, the fun runs, aerobics and Zumba as well as musical entertainment which will be provided by DJ Fantan and Levels as well as a number of artists whose identities will be revealed in due course.”
Among the coprorates that have partnered Moonlight are Zimoco, NMB, Bank ABC, Emeratus, Liquid, Delta, Econet, Masca, Old Mutual, Maisha, Prevail International and West Prop as well as the Parliament of Zimbabwe and National University of Science and Technology (Nust).
