Macheso, Jah Prayzah for Nama
STAR musicians Alick Macheso and Jah Prayzah will headline the 2020 National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) ceremony scheduled for February 29 at the Harare International Conference Centre.
While local musicians have in the recent past snubbed other awards events, Nama organisers believe having two of the best entertainers among the guest performers will be a definite draw card.
The duo will share the stage with dancehall chanter Freeman, rapper Ti Gonzi, Ammara Brown, Gemma Griffiths and Vabati VaJehova among others.
Ti Gonzi, Freeman and Ammara Brown are some of the performers who are in the running at Nama.
For the first time, Macheso’s dancer Selemani “Majuice” Mpochi is in the running for the outstanding male dancer category.
Recently, the Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) ceremony was marred by absenteeism with a number of musicians including those who were in the running conspicuous by their absence.
Another Zimdancehall awards ceremony held over the weekend was also snubbed, as such all eyes are now on Nama to redeem the status and standing of music awards.
This has created anticipation from several people who believe they are in line with international trends were the countries’ top performers are invited to showcase.
