THE 10 000-seater Mabvuku Stadium, whose construction began late last year, will be complete in the next three months.
The stadium, which is expected to be constructed in keeping with Fifa/ Caf standards, is set to be premiership outfit Scottland’s home ground, once certified.
“Work on the stadium site at Mabvuku number 1 grounds has been coming along well and we expect the stadium to be completed in three months’ time.
“And if the Harare City Council allows us to utilise the entire space at number 1 grounds, we will construct other sporting amenities such as a swimming pool, basketball courts and tennis courts,” Scottland owner Pedzai ‘‘Scott’’ Sakupwanya, who is also the Mabvuku-Tafara legislator, said on the sidelines of a schools’ football tournament he hosted in the area yesterday.
Incidentally, the inaugural Honourable Scott P. Sakupwanya Schools Tournament attracted at least 14 secondary and primary schools who fielded teams in both football and netball with local corporate Betterbrands supplying playing kits for all the participating teams.
Tafara High 1 beat Herentals Mabvuku 2-0 in the highly-anticipated secondary schools football final. Sakupwanya pledged his commitment to uplifting sports in the area by not only bankrolling tournaments, but also availing the stadium, which is currently under construction, for such competitions.
“This tournament will now become a regular event and we will continue to support all the schools by providing playing kits and match balls. We will also avail the stadium that we are building for schools tournaments,” said Sakupwanya.
