Korea prolongs tie-up with 3Ktv

FAST-GROWING independent national television station, 3Ktv, is continuing to score major achievements. This comes after the trailblazing, two-year-old local broadcaster signed a fresh content agreement with the Korean Embassy in Zimbabwe yesterday.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Harare, Korean Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Jae Kyung Park, lauded 3Ktv for its riveting programming — which he said had contributed to the extension of the parties’ collaboration.

“3Ktv is celebrating its second anniversary and I just want to say congratulations. We have a good working relationship with you and, and we particularly love the good content that you provide. “At the same time, we try hard to promote the image of Zimbabwe in Korea.

“It is a good thing that 3Ktv has Korean dramas and animation programmes provided from the Korean side through the Embassy,” Kyung Park said. On her part, 3Ktv head of programming, Lucia Kanyongo, said the new deal, which runs until 2026, was a testament to the success of the television channel.

“This continued partnership with the Korean Embassy underlines our status as a television station of choice among many key stakeholders.

“We are delighted that this new partnership is coming as we are about to enter our Season 9 which will be headlined by even more gripping programmes,” Kanyongo said.

All this comes as 3Ktv has continued to boss its industry peers in the relatively short time that it has been on air. At the beginning of this year, the station bagged awards at the Zimbabwe Community Trailblazers Awards, meant to reward both individual and corporate achievers doing amazing things in their communities.

The awards came on the back of an excellent 2023 for the broadcaster — in which it won countless honours. For example, 3Ktv bagged most of the awards on offer at the inaugural Zimbabwe Annual Film and Television Awards (ZAFTAs) ceremony which was held in Harare in December last year.

The channel garnered 10 awards at the glittering event — adding more silverware to its already bountiful trophy cabinet. 3Ktv — which was licenced in November 2020 after coming tops in a competitive and public bidding process — went on air amid palpable excitement on the 28th of February 2022, becoming the first licensed private commercial station to operate in the country since television was first introduced in the then Southern Rhodesia in November 1960.

The TV station, The Financial Gazette, as well as the influential Daily News, the Daily News On Sunday and e-newsletter, Business Live, all fall under the Jester Media Services Group (JMS).
