This comes as 12 of their fellow colleagues were acquitted last week by magistrate Collet Ncube for disorderly conduct and unlawful gathering, while the magistrate said the 66, including CCC administrator Jameson Timba, should stand trial.

Karoi carjacker caged 12 years

A KAROI magistrate has jailed Arnold Gunguwo for 12 years who had connived with an accomplice — only identified as Shepherd — to rob a taxi driver of his vehicle.

While it is understood that the duo had hired the complainant to ferry them from Karoi to Chinhoyi for US$20, they were at some point cornered by villagers at Chikuti Business Centre but managed to speed off in the stolen motor vehicle.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, Gunguwo and his fugitive accomplice had on reaching the 175 kilometre peg on the Harare-Chirundu highway requested for a recess attacking the complainant, and threatening him with a Star Pistol.

And the duo subsequently ordered the complainant into the vehicle’s front passenger’s seat before driving off towards Chinhoyi.

Soon after jumping out of the moving vehicle, the complainant sought assistance from a well-wisher and called the owner of the vehicle who mobilised other villagers, and came in his lorry to look for Gunguwo and Shepherd, who were tracked and cornered around the northern Zimbabwe town.

The complainant and his posse only caught up with them when the motor vehicle developed a mechanical fault. Shepherd managed to escape whilst the accused person was apprehended by the villagers. — New Ziana
