Jester Media employees undergo health check-up

INTEGRATED media services company, Jester Media Services (JMS) employees have received free medical check-ups, as part of the company’s initiative for better health and working conditions for its workers.

The programme was done in partnership with top medical practitioners from Suburban Hospital. Under the exercise, employees from JMS’ three main business units — The Associated Newspapers of Zimbabwe (ANZ), publishers of the Daily News and the Daily News on Sunday, Modus Media, publishers and of leading weekly business publication, The Financial Gazette and 3Ktv — underwent diabetes, blood pressure and prostate cancer testing as well as mental health counselling.

Speaking during the event, which ran under the theme: “Promoting Health at the Workplace,” JMS human resources manager, Tumirayi Jokonya, said the medical check-ups sought to improve productivity and cut employees’ medical costs.

“We recognise that a healthy workforce is the cornerstone of productivity, and this initiative embodies our pledge to foster a culture of well-being among our employees. “By offering complimentary medical screenings, we strive to mitigate healthcare expenses for our employees while cultivating a workplace culture that values health and wellness,” she said.

“We are resolute in our commitment to creating a nurturing environment that prioritises the holistic well-being of our employees, and this initiative marks the beginning of our endeavours to support their physical and mental health.”

On his part, Suburban Hospital health specialist, Challenge Marange, said the programme was the medical centre’s opportunity of giving back to the community. “As healthcare providers, it is important for us to give back to our community, and this partnership allows us to do just that.

“Early detection and prevention can make all the difference in maintaining good health. We hope to make a positive impact on the health and well-being of Jester Media Services employees and their families,” he said, adding: “We are proud to be part of this initiative, which aligns with our mission to provide quality healthcare and promote health awareness in our community.” A

lso in attendance on the day was Reign Mental Consultancy psychologist, Rumbidzai Mutendera who emphasised that “mental health is just as important as physical health, and we are happy for having the opportunity to provide counselling here at Jester Media Services.

“By addressing mental health concerns, we can help employees manage stress, improve their overall well-being, and increase productivity.”
