Holy Ten tops Changamire awards

HIP-HOP artiste Holy Ten, dominated the seventh edition of the Changamire HipHop Awards after bagging three gongs at a ceremony held in Harare early this week.

Held under the theme Humility, Dedication and Success, the awards saw Holy Ten, one of the fastest rising rappers in the country, walking away with awards in the Best Male Artiste, People’s Choice and Song of the Year categories.

On the same awards, Mulla T who bagged two gongs in the form of Hip-Hop Personality of the Year and Hip-Hop Socialite of the Year. Takura won Best Hip-Hop Video thanks to his song Haarore while Nutty O walked away with Best Alternative Song with Hatipere Power.

 Roki was adjudicated the Best Alternative Act on the awards. Event organisers said the awards were meant to honour hip-hop artists and grow the local music industry at large. “The awards seek to give upcoming artists a platform to shine and grow.

Honouring musicians will go a long way in developing the local music industry. “It encourages artists to go an extra mile in their career and feel appreciated,” one of the Changamire Hip-Hop awards organisers Munyaradzi Kawanje said. The awards were first held in 2015.

“The awards evolved from the Changamire Hip-Hop Festival. The idea was to appreciate and honour those that have participated at the festival through the awards.

“At Changamire, we are proud to have played a role in the career of various artists who are now brands in the music industry and these include Kikky Badass, Crooger, T Gonz just to mention a few,” Kawenje said.

The awards had 31 categories which included Best Designer, Best Promoter and Best Producer among others. “The awards have a board of adjudicators who include radio DJs, bloggers, and veteran hip-hop artists who help in the success of the awards,” Kawanje said.
