HARARE City Council’s parking unit — City Parking — has said it is planning to expand its business outside the Central Business District to include various shopping centres.

The company’s managing director, Simon Muzviyo, told the Daily News yesterday that following a presentation they made to the council last month, they are now geared to kick-start the programme.

“The company is now on an expansion drive to provide parking services to other areas outside the Central Business District and to other towns and cities. We have been approached by those centres and are seriously considering them,” Muzviyo said.

He added that despite popular sentiment that the business makes a lot of money, the company was struggling to stay afloat due to the economic situation.

“We are also developing technological systems to ensure operational effectiveness and efficiency,” Muzviyo said.

In 2018, City Parking presented a revenue report to council which showed that while their business had grown by three percent in the first half of the year, it encountered a number of challenges which prevented it from achieving higher figures in other operating areas.
