THE National Excellence Hall of Fame will hold its second edition on March 14 at Rainbow Towers in Harare, with organisers saying the event will broaden its scope to recognise outstanding Zimbabweans across 15 key sectors.
Established in 2020, the platform seeks to honour individuals whose work has shaped national development while preserving industry history and inspiring future generations.
“This is about recognising integrity, service and collaboration, while ensuring that the stories of our legends are preserved for generations to come,” one of the organisers Christopher Samkange said.
The inaugural ceremony, staged last year, brought together high-profile achievers from various fields and laid the foundation for a more expansive second edition.
According to Samkange, this year’s edition will introduce dedicated halls of fame for sectors including pharmaceuticals, hospitality and tourism, mining, education, agriculture, music and entertainment, sport, medicine, nursing, hair and beauty, restaurants, humanitarian aid, ministries and the motor industry.
“Honourees will receive granite and gold plaques, ceremonial Hall of Fame gowns and be featured in interactive exhibits showcasing artefacts from their careers.
“The ceremony will be officiated by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Torerayi Moyo, and his presence underscores the importance of education and heritage in national development,” he said.
He added the special awards to be presented on the night include the Medal of Courage, recognising individuals who have overcome significant adversity, and the Order of Merit, voted for by peers within each sector.
“The initiative has attracted interest beyond Zimbabwe, with several African countries invited to draw lessons from the model. We moved the date from the initial proposed March 7 to allow additional time to engage inductees.”
