GEO Pomona Waste Management Company will today receive a sustainability innovation champion award for spearheading the use of clean renewable energy at an event in the capital tonight.
The prestigious awards event is organised and hosted by the ESG Network Zimbabwe (ESGNZ), a multi-stakeholder organisation that aims to advance best practices in corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the public and private sectors with the ultimate goal of supporting sustainable businesses that contribute to the country’s economic development.
In a letter addressed to Geo Pomona Waste Management chief executive Delish Nguwaya, ESGNZ executive director Willard Razawo said the company was a champion in enhancing clean renewable energy in Zimbabwe.
“The Environment, Social, Governance Network Zimbabwe (ESGNZ) would like to congratulate as well as to notify Geo Pomona Waste Management that it is the winner of the sustainability innovation champion award at the 2023 Zimbabwe National ESG and CSR Awards.
“ESGNZ applauds and appreciates your organisation’s eff orts in championing sustainability innovation and use of clean renewable energy in Zimbabwe,” read part of the letter.
Razawo added that today’s awards would be held under the theme; “Pioneering Sustainable Development.”
“Award winners are mobilised from the diverse sectors and industries which have created positive impact towards Zimbabwe’s sustainable development and the promotion of the government’s Vision 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals,” Razawo added.
Speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony of Geo-Pomona’s waste-to-energy project in Harare earlier this month, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said it highlighted the confidence that investors have in the conducive business environment in the country. The project would convert waste into energy and will help in easing the country’s power challenges.
