Free medical treatment for disabled, war veterans

KADOMA businessman Jimayi Muduvuri has opened a hospital which will give free treatment to people living with disabilities and war veterans.

Speaking to the Daily News yesterday, Muduvuri, who is known for helping people living with disabilities under Muduvuri Rehabilitation and Empowerment Foundation-(MREF), said the hospital has 1 540 beds.

“Muduvuri Pan African Referral Hospital is going to give free medical treatment to people living with disabilities and war veterans. This is not going to benefit Zimbabweans only, even those from South Africa, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania and Zambia can come to the hospital.

“As you know our war veterans liberated us and as business people we must make sure that their welfare is catered for. For people living with disabilities most of them do not have formal jobs and they do not have medical aid so we saw it fit to establish a hospital which caters for their medical needs free of charge.

“We want to thank our liberation fighters for creating this conducive environment for us local businesspeople to prosper and we can only do this by providing them free treatment. Apart from war veterans and people living with disabilities, anyone can get treatment at the hospital at affordable prices.

Muduvuri said the Covid-19 pandemic inspired him to build the hospital which seeks to help improve the country’s health sector.

“When I was admitted to a hospital, I saw many people suffering…the situation was horrible. I told my doctor that when I manage to recover I will do something to help the government to improve the country’s health sector. I learnt that there was a need to complement government efforts,” he said.

Muduvuri spent 21 days on oxygen after he was infected by the deadly covid-19.

“Muduvuri pan African Referral Hospital is going to be a very good hospital. We are going to have specialist doctors, special treatment including all cancer machines. We want to support our President’s efforts and we will continue work towards improving people’s lives,” Muduvuri added.
