TWO robbery suspects, who tried to escape from the police in Kadoma, were shot and injured, and re-arrested.
Talent Mutandwa and Enock Maseko, disguised with balaclavas and armed with knives and machetes, allegedly robbed two people of cash and cellphones on Saturday, but were successfully tracked down and arrested by police soon after.
In a statement, national police spokesperson, Paul Nyathi said detectives first arrested Maseko in Chegutu, who later led them to Kadoma where Mutandwa was hiding. Maseko’s arrest yielded a pistol, an okapi knife, a balaclava and a machete suspected to have been used in the robbery. After Mutandwa’s arrest, police recovered a dagger and another firearm.
Nyathi said after the arrests, the duo led police to Martin Spur in Kadoma where they claimed to have hidden more weapons, but then tried to escape from lawful custody, leading to them being shot. They were shot in the legs, and are currently recovering in hospital.
Nyathi said police also discovered the two had other pending cases in the courts involving murder, robbery and malicious damage to property. — New Ziana
