AT LEAST five people died while several others were injured in an accident involving a Tamuka Coaches bus travelling from Johannesburg, South Africa, to Zimbabwe on Sunday.
The accident occurred in Mokopane, Limpopo Province, when the bus overturned on the N1 highway, northbound towards Nyl Plaza, around 5:30pm. Reports indicate that the deceased included four men and one woman.
Many passengers sustained injuries of varying severity and were promptly taken to local hospitals in Mokopane for treatment.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has confirmed the details of the accident. The accident follows closely on another one just five days earlier when a Mzansi Express bus travelling from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg was involved in a fatal crash near Polokwane.
That crash resulted in ten fatalities and numerous injuries, raising concerns about road safety for long distance travelling. Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and adhere to safety regulations. — New Ziana
