China praises Zim’s Covid-19 efforts
CHINA has hailed the efforts being made by the government to contain the Covid-19 epidemic, which has so far killed six people in the country out of 486 infections.
Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun said this during a media briefing in Harare last week on the virtual ‘Extraordinary China-Africa Summit on Solidarity against Covid-19’ hosted by President Xi Jinping on June 17.
“China and African countries very much appreciate the work done by the Zimbabwean government under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa in combating Covid-19, as well as Zimbabwe’s efforts in promoting peace and stability in the Sadc region,” Guo said.
China, according to figures from the Chinese Embassy, as of June 19, had donated to Zimbabwe over 724 000 masks, more than 21 000 testing kits, and about 100 000 pieces of protective gear.
Mnangagwa represented Zimbabwe and Sadc in the virtual meeting, which was a joint initiative of China, South Africa, the rotating chair of the African Union, and Senegal, the co-chair of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
