CIVIL Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) director general Elijah Chingosho is retiring with effect from November 5 this year, the agency board has said.
Chingosho has been at the helm of the authority since 2021. “The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) Board chairman, Captain Alois G Nyandoro and the board, wish to advise all aviation industry stakeholders that Engineer Elijah Chingosho has tendered in his notice of retirement as accountable manager (director general) for CAAZ, with effect from 05 November 2024.
The notice period is to allow a seamless, smooth succession and hand over to a new incumbent and to ensure minimum or no interruption to normal operations,” Nyandoro said in a communication sent to stakeholders.
Nyandoro said during his tenure, Chingosho achieved key milestones on air navigation systems and infrastructure improvements as well as the official launch of the Aviation Training Academy of Zimbabwe (ATAZ) as a fully accredited Approved Training Organisation (ATO).
Chingosho, a Retired Group Captain from the Air Force of Zimbabwe, is a seasoned aviator and consultant, who joined CAAZ on August 1 2021 at the height of a process to separate and hive off airport operations from the regulatory function, a process which was successfully completed. Nyandoro said the process of recruiting Chingosho’s successor has commenced.
“The board reiterates that normal operations will continue uninterrupted in line with all stipulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The CAAZ Board would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Eng. Chingosho for his selfless dedication, commitment and profound service to the Authority and aviation industry at large, and wish him a restful pending retirement,” he said. — New Ziana
