The three Ngwenya brothers, Tineyi, 32, Tapiwa, 18, and Tawanda, 18, yesterday appeared before Zvishavane magistrate Archie Wochiunga facing charges of unlawful possession of gold ore.

According to the State, the Ngwenya brothers were arrested on January 22, 2022 on the same day they unlawfully took the gold ore at the mine.

They pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced to four months’ imprisonment.

The court heard that the accused from Madhoro Village in Mberengwa, under Chief Mazivofa, connived to steal gold at Sabi Gold Mine.

They went to the mine with a pick, shovel and some sacks and managed to pack ore that weighed 130 kilogrammes, the court heard.

Before they left the premises, they were noticed by one Ishmael Moyo who was doing security checks and were immediately apprehended.

All the gold ore was recovered.
