BETTERBRANDS Jewellery (Betterbrands) continues to play a significant role in the gold value chain, after playing a central role in record deliveries to the authorities.
This comes after both small scale miners and large scale miners contributed a record breaking gold haul of 46,7 tonnes in 2025 — surpassing the 36,48 tonnes that had been produced in 2024.
Betterbrands, which works with small scale miners, is the biggest licensed gold buyer and has been credited with being at the heart of increased gold deliveries to Fidelity Gold Refiners in the past four years.
Since 2021, Betterbrands has been playing a central role in the deliveries by small scale and artisanal miners whose contributions have been higher than large scale miners.
Betterbrands chairman, Pedzai “Scott” Sakupwanya attributed the record-breaking gold production in 2025, to improving mining policies and good incentives to small scale players — while promising an audacious target of 70 tonnes in 2026.
“We are very grateful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his government, for continuing to walk the talk on economic delivery.
“The record gold production witnessed in 2025, is a result of continued refinement of mining policies, including giving meaningful incentives to small scale miners.
“As the country’s largest licensed gold buyer, representing Fidelity Gold Refiners, we are grateful for these reforms that continue to take place in the mining industry.
“We have no doubt that as long as we continue on this trajectory, we will even see more records being broken, going forward,” Sakupwanya told the Daily News On Sunday.
As a licensed gold buyer with a huge footprint across the country, Sakupwanya also said Betterbrands had made a lasting impact in mobilising gold from the artisanal small scale gold miners.
“As Betterbrands, we remain committed in contributing to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of having Zimbabwe achieve an Upper Middle Income status by 2030.
“We are encouraged and spurred on to do better and help contribute towards this milestone that the country is chasing,” Sakupwanya also told the Daily News On Sunday.
From the 46,7 tonnes delivered in 2025, small scale miners contributed a massive 34, 9 tonnes, while the large scale miners chipping in with 11, 8 tonnes.
In 2024, Betterbrands contributed 15, 862 tonnes to the overall national tally of 36,48 tonnes of gold produced by both small and large scale miners.
Betterbrands’ contribution for 2024 represented an eye-watering US$1,5 billion in deliveries, surpassing its own previous record of deliveries valued at US$1,2 billion, delivered in 2022.
