FADING giants Dynamos resume what is fast turning out to be a survival battle tomorrow when they face Bikita Minerals at Gibbo Stadium in Triangle.
Once a serial title contender, the Glamour Boys, who remain Zimbabwe’s most successful club by trophy count, are now a pale shadow of themselves.
In fact, everything appears to be in regression for DeMbare who have lost the wow factor that not only made them crowd pullers, but also charmed the country’s finest footballing talents with ease.
After another disappointing campaign in which they finished midtable last year, Dynamos not only lost a host of their best players, but also found themselves turning to a bunch of unheralded players for this campaign.
They also opted to stick with Lloyd ‘‘Mablanyo’’ Chigowe, a renowned juniors coach, but with things clearly not working out on the pitch, sacked him and turned to journeyman Saul Chaminuka. Still winless a month into his reign, Chaminuka is putting up a brave face as he tries to steer third from bottom DeMbare away from the relegation quagmire.
“One thing about this team is that we rarely score more than once in a game and that should start this weekend. We are going to beat Bikita Minerals, and we are going to play an attacking kind of football,” said Chaminuka.
“We need to start winning games. We have worked now as a team for a good two weeks, since the break for the national team games. We have been trying to correct, especially our lack of goals, which is our problem at the moment, and I am sure that we should be able to score at least two goals this Saturday.
“The message has always been, we can do it, we can win matches, and this game, like I alluded earlier to, is a game where we want to take the game to the hosts. We want our first win, since my arrival here and I think it will probably be our first away win, if I am right to say,” he added.
Indeed, the only game that the team has won in 14 attempts was the 1-0 win over reigning champions Simba Bhora at Rufaro Stadium.
That win came on Matchday 4 and now the side is winless in 10 since then. Chaminuka has reason for optimism ahead of the match against Bikita Minerals with the Glamour Boys having won last year’s corresponding fixture between the two sides one-nil at Sakubva Stadium on April 1.
