A LOCAL charity known as The Friendlies has donated school uniforms to over a thousand young girls and children from across the country.
This comes as the organisation has in recent years undertaken several philanthropic programmes and initiatives, including the Mobi Soup Kitchen (MSK) and payment of school fees for street children.
“Over the past three months, The Friendlies have been actively engaged in transformative projects aimed at uplifting local communities across Zimbabwe,” a spokesperson for The Friendlies said, adding they were “grateful for the incredible support from institutions such as Enbee and which have had a significant impact on various sections of society”.
“This recent and generous donation of over a thousand girls’ uniforms marked a pivotal moment for us, which was followed up by weeks of diligent efforts by our teams to sort and distribute them to schools in need, and the result being smiles and renewed hope for many young girls,” she said.
Some of the primary schools which benefitted from the massive boost include Shumba and Trintas Orphanage in Epworth, Mutiunokura in Mufakose and Nyameni as well as Eagle Turning in Marondera.
“This initiative not only provided essential clothing, but also believe it boosts morale and confidence among pupils. We are pleased to also announce plans to distribute 300 more uniforms in pursuit of our mission to empower through education,” The Friendlies’ representative said.
As part of strategies to help, positively impact and make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children, the organisation wishes to escalate its feeding and nutritional schemes through partnerships with entities such as MSK.
“We expanded our outreach by teaming up with Mobi… to provide hearty, nutritious meals for 722 children in Magamba Hatcliffe and the event was not just about food, but a celebration of community spirit and collaboration,” she said, adding “their aim was to foster smiles, holistic community development, reinforce a camaridarie spirit for the people who need it the most and under a truly rewarding process or movement”.
