FORMER Highlanders vice-chairman Modern ‘Voltage’ Ngwenya says the local game can only be revived if there is unity of purpose and genuine leaders who are passionate about moving the sport forward.

A seasoned administrator and businessman, Ngwenya is among the more than 30 individuals seeking election onto the Zifa executive committee in the much anticipated January 25 election.

“I am very passionate about football and my desire to be a Zifa board member is actuated by the love that I have for the game.

“My heart aches when our football is in the doldrums and our national teams are not playing well and of course I am glad that we have qualified for Afcon, I want to work towards achieving more such success across the board,” said Ngwenya.

Having made a name for himself as director of Virmod Electric, a leading electrical engineering firm in sub-saharan Africa, Ngwenya believes he can draw on his business acumen combined with his experience in football administration to revive the local game.

Above all, Ngwenya is convinced that only a united Zifa leadership can give a new lease of life to Zimbabwean football.

“I believe that we are stronger as a united front hence my  proposed business strategy for the  Zimbabwe Football Association is that together with the current Councillors we can work to promote and develop football in the country, fostering a culture of excellence, inclusivity, and sportsmanship,” said Ngwenya.

“I also envision Zifa  becoming  a leading football association, renowned for producing talented players, hosting world-class events, and inspiring a passionate fan base.

“Since Rome was not built in a day, one of the things that I will push for is for continuity with the current councillors be extended until we build a strong foundation together.”

“We need to work as a team of we are to revive the country’s football because I believe that working together works.

“We may be from different tribes or races, but the blood of soccer that binds us together is thicker than the water that separates us.
