WITH health experts warning of another possible wave of Covid-19, Zimbabwean Africa Disability Alliance goodwill ambassadors have intensified efforts in advocating for the rights of people with disabilities to receive the vaccine.
Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association president Dr Johannes Marisa said Zimbabweans should not relax as the country is likely to be hit again by the deadly pandemic.
“Prevention is always better than cure and we urge people to receive all the jabs necessary as Covid-19 is threatening to strike again,” Marisa said.
“We also encourage people with underlying conditions including those with disabilities not to take chances but opt for the jab.”
Owing to this background, Zimbabwean Africa Disability Alliance goodwill ambassadors – Brenda Mudzimu, Senzeni Mutevedzi, Andrade Karota and Shamiso Kabayahwaro have intensified the campaign meant to encourage people with disabilities to get the vaccines.
“While we are leaving no stone unturned in the fight against Covid-19, upholding rights for the disabled community by encouraging them to opt for the jab, we are so happy with the progress we made so far.
“A number of people with disabilities have responded well,” Mudzimu said.
In their campaign, the ADA goodwill ambassadors use different strategies including door-to-door campaigns, workshops and media interviews so as to reach a wide audience.
Covid-19 has killed hundreds of thousands globally since March 2019 when the virus was first detected in Wuhan city in China.
Records have it that the most affected were people with underlying conditions.
On the other hand, it infected millions of people world-wide during the period under discussion.
