IT APPEARS that there is no stopping fast-growing independent commercial television station, 3Ktv, and its staff, from dominating the local broadcasting sector.
This comes as the station and its reporter, Ashley Moyo, have just been recognised for their outstanding coverage of the arts sector — particularly the on-going Go-Green Climate Justice and Renewable Energy Solutions Young Artist Exhibition.
The exhibition, which is running until August 10, covers the work by young visual artists in the areas of climate justice and renewable energy solutions.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Harare this week, Nhaka Gallery executive director, Hellen Matsvisi, singled out Moyo and 3Ktv for their exceptional reportage on young artists featured in the exhibition.
The awards ceremony was graced by the Second Secretary of the Australian Embassy, Doreen Hanner, as well as the Netherlands Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Magret Verwijk. “This award speaks to the quality and content of 3ktv’s arts coverage which we have recognised.
“The reporter did great work on the reporting of the Climate Justice and Renewable Energy Solutions Art Exhibition. “3Ktv provided a platform for Nhaka Gallery by informing audiences on issues around climate change. “For us climate activists and policymakers, 3Ktv has proved to be a powerful tool that communicates the impact of climate change in an understandable way.
“It is important for local news organisations to show the impact of climate change in communities,” Matsvisi said, adding that they were grateful to 3Ktv for covering visual artists’ efforts in pushing for climate justice in line with SDG 13.
The award came barely a month after the trail-blazing channel garnered recognition from the National Blood Services Zimbabwe (NBSZ) for its news coverage of health and blood trends.
Then, reporter Nyasha Kunyiswa also walked away with an award for her coverage of health trends at the event. Commenting on this winning streak by 3Ktv, the Group Editorin-Chief of Jester Media Services (JMS), Guthrie Munyuki, said it was most gratifying to note that Zimbabweans continued to notice the station’s good work, as well as that of its staff.
“We are ecstatic about how we continue to set the benchmarks in the local broadcasting sector, which is a huge tribute to all the people and the considerable talent that we have in our group. “The recognition that we are getting manifests our position as Zimbabwe’s most watched television channel on satellite.
“We thank all our viewers and business partners who, in the end, are the ones who make us great,” Munyuki said. 3Ktv, the country’s first independent television station, was recently adjudged the best broadcaster in Zimbabwe on travel and tourism by the Twalumba National Travel and Tourism Awards. Those awards were organised by the Travel, Tourism & Environment ministry, in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) and the Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe (TBCZ).
The gong was in recognition of the station’s tireless efforts in covering and promoting travel and tourism in the country. The station’s much-followed news and current affairs programme, Vantage, was also recently named the country’s outstanding television programme.
Vantage’s host, Munyuki, was also adjudged a ‘distinguished editor” for his outstanding leadership role at JMS — which owns and operates 3Ktv, as well as other leading media brands that include the iconic Daily News, the Daily News On Sunday and The Financial Gazette — Zimbabwe’s number one business publication.
