Zimbos must utilise ICTs – Muswere
ZIMBABWEANS have been urged to use the Covid-19 lockdown to come up with innovative technological start-ups to help grow the local digital economy.
Speaking at the IR Summit yesterday, Information Communication Technology (ICT) minister Jenfan Muswere said Zimbabweans must adopt a new approach in order to exploit the technology.
With many people sitting idle at home due to the lockdown and travel restrictions, there is a huge demand for
online services and most companies which have embraced technology are reaping the benefits.
“The government of Zimbabwe has identified a digital economy as one of the national priorities for the achievement of an upper middle income economy status by 2030. In alignment with the National Development Strategy-1 (NDS1), the government envisages a digital economy, digital government and an increasingly digital society.
The fourth industrial revolution has brought with it many technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of things, robotics, virtual reality, the cloud, and 3D printing which present vast opportunities in the entirety of the economy,” Muswere said.
