TRANSPORT minister Joel Matiza says the government is upgrading the country’s air traffic communication systems and equipment in line with technological advancements.
This was after the Air Traffic Controllers’ Association of Zimbabwe (ATCAZ) had expressed concern over the “continued deterioration in air navigation communication performance” and warned that failure to address the navigation communication system could result in mid-air collisions and possible blacklisting of the country by the United Nations’ aviation agency.
Matiza, however, said government is always alert to the need to constantly upgrade traffic communication systems to ensure safe and secure air space.
“The current equipment meets the minimum requirements and we are in the process of upgrading our systems and equipment. However, rest assured, that our air space is safe and secure,” he said in an interview.
