ZIMBABWE will Tuesday host a Sadc Organ on Politics, Defence and Security extraordinary summit in Harare to discuss the ongoing turmoil in northern Mozambique following the emergence of militants in the neighbouring country.

The summit will be chaired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and attended by his counterparts, Zambian President Edgar Lungu, Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi and Mozambican leader Fillipe Nyusi.

“The purpose of the extra-ordinary Organ Troika Summit plus Mozambique is to consider the urgent security situation in Mozambique following its formal request to the regional body,” Foreign Affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo said on Monday night.

The ongoing conflict, mainly in Cabo Delgado, is being fought between Islamist militants attempting to establish an Islamic state in the region, and Mozambican security forces. Civilians have been the main target of attacks by the Islamist militants.
