Wife kills self over hubby’s infidelity

A ZVISHAVANE woman, Regina Matava, 56, was found dead in her bedroom in a suspected suicide case, allegedly after discovering that her husband of 25 years was cheating on her.

Matava, from Mamero village, allegedly killed herself on Tuesday night and her body was discovered yesterday in the morning.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko said he had not yet received the report.

However, Matava’s relatives, who were still in shock, said her death was heart breaking.

“As I speak, I am in deep pain and shock because I never thought that someone jovial and happy like aunt Regy (Matava) would kill herself over marital issues.

“She appeared so happy and never talked about any challenges in her marriage.

“It has been 25 years in this marriage and it is shocking to learn of her death,” a sobbing Dorica Matava, a niece to the deceased, said.

Dorica said the family learnt about Matava’s marital challenges after reading a suicide note she left behind on her dressing table.

“She indicated that her husband has been cheating on her for a long time and she would be beaten whenever she quizzed him about the matter.

“Now, she had discovered he had four children outside wedlock,” narrated Dorica.

Matava’s body was found hanging on a roof truss.

Other relatives expressed shock while vowing to bring the husband to book.

“This is not going to end well. Our sister cannot just die like that, this man will see it for himself,” said one fuming uncle, who declined to be named.

The husband, according to relatives, had not been around for a week and his mobile was not reachable.

“We have been trying to reach him, but to no avail. We are not sure if he is aware of this tragedy,” said the uncle.

Matava left behind five children and three grandchildren.
