Vharazipi capitalises on lockdown
THE Sabhuku Vharazipi cast has no qualms about the Covid-19-induced national lockdown as they have recorded brisk business at a time many artists have been idle.
The cast is made up of David “Sabuku Vharazipi” Mubaiwa, Wellington “Chairman” Chindara and Kumbirai “Mbuya Mai John” Chikonye.
“Almost every week we will be in communities spreading awareness on issues including gender-based violence, Covid-19 and early childhood marriages among others. We can’t complain too much,” Chindara said.
This comes as a number of organisations such as Msasa Project and Plan International have roped in the comedians in their fight against the escalation of GBV cases during this Covid-19 lockdown period.
“Last week we were in Uzumba doing Covid-19 awareness campaigns. Prior, we were in Mwenezi. The places are too much to mention,” Chindara said.
Sabhuku Vharazipi and his crew’s efforts complement other organisations such as the Children’s Performing Arts Workshop (Chipawo) who have also embarked on a drive to spread GBV awareness in society through theatre.
During this Covid-19-induced national lockdown, cases of GBV have increased astronomically, according to various pressure groups that deal with society issues.
