SPEEDY forward Martin Vengesai, pictured, became the latest player to leave Castle Lager Premiership side Harare City this off-season to pursue his career in India, the Daily News can report.
Vengesai, who was one of the senior players left at the club, is leaving after spending five years with the Sunshine Boys which saw him lifting the Chibuku Super Cup twice.
The 32-year-old becomes the fifth high profile player to leave City following the departures of defender Takudzwa Chimwemwe, who signed for Zambia’s Buildcon and the trio of Tatenda Tumba, Ishmael Wadi and Munyaradzi Diro-Nyenye, who all joined CAPS United.
However, despite the departures Harare City coach Lloyd Chitembwe is pleased with how things are shaping up at the club as the 2020 season fast approaches.
“I think so far so good for us. It has been a long process for us considering it’s pre-season. We have tried to do the best we can so that we can improve the team but all the same it has not been easy,” Chitembwe said.
“We brought in players that we really wanted. I thought the technical team did the best in identifying areas that failed the last season and they wanted to see some improvements and I’m sure the solutions are credible.”
The Sunshine Boys have overcome the temptation of signing big name players but instead chose to promote the majority of their players from their junior developmental side Cubs.
So far Harare City have signed Valentine Ndaba, Ben Musaka, Zvikomborero Bizeki, Emmanuel Mandiranga, Morris Musiyakuvi and Prosper Chigumba while promoting youngsters from their juniors.
“Sometimes you need time and space to make decisions without any disturbances and I’m sure that’s the reason we had to go about our business quietly.
“All the same I don’t think we are a club that is noisy,” Chitembwe said.
