Robber killed in police-shoot-out
A SUSPECTED robber, who was part of a five-member gang arrested in Harare’s Marimba suburb, succumbed to injuries he sustained during a shoot-out with the police, deputy police spokesperson Blessing Chishaka has confirmed. “Police in Harare have arrested Taurai Dzingai, 46, Godfrey Rufurwokuda, 44, Nabal Prosper Moyo, 25, Kenneth Madondo, 35 and Munyaradzi Chikarara, 35, following a case of armed robbery which occurred in Marimba, Harare on January 8, 2020 at around 2020hours. “One of the accused has since succumbed to the injuries he sustained following a shoot-out with police officers..,” Chishaka said. The suspected robbers reportedly tied the complainant with shoe laces and assaulted him demanding to know where his brother kept his money. They reportedly stole a small metal safe containing 13 000 Rand and other valuables which were in the complainant’s bedroom. Chishaka said in another robbery case, which occurred on Thursday last week, five robbers, who are still on the run, stormed a Budiriro house armed with a pistol and forced open the door, where they found the complainant’s sister sleeping. “They assaulted her demanding to know where her brother was. The victim’s brother managed to escape and the accused person fired two shots towards him, but missed. They later entered the room where the complainant’s brother had been sleeping and assaulted his wife, demanding some money. They stole money amounting to $9 000 and other valuables which were in a box,” Chishaka said.
