Reprieve for Nyambirai

ZIMBABWE Electricity and Transmission Distribution Company (ZETDC) has been barred by the High Court from billing in foreign currency power bills at businessman Tawanda Nyambirai’s TN Gold Arcturus Mine (TN).

This was after Nyambirai approached the apex court on appeal after being charged US$73 690, 95 in electricity arrears accrued since September 2019 to date. In the judgment, High Court judge Happias Zhou slapped ZETDC with costs and declared the bill unlawful since Nyambirai was not generating income in foreign currency as the mine was not functional.

He also barred ZETDC from terminating electricity at the mine.
