Quarantine escapees arrested

AT LEAST 23 people have been arrested for escaping from various quarantine centres across the country, the police have said.

This comes after over a hundred people fled from quarantine centres across the country at a time the number of confirmed coronavirus (Covid-19) cases has doubled with the new infections coming from Zimbabweans returning from South Africa and Botswana.

The country currently has 149 confirmed cases of Covid-19, four deaths and 28 recoveries.
“The police have arrested 23 of the 148 people who escaped from various quarantine centres across the country.
“We are urging the public to report all suspected escapees who might have joined communities without following/completing the Covid-19 screening process designed for returnees by the government,” national police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said.

Meanwhile, government yesterday revealed that 100 Zimbabweans and legal residents who work in cruiseships were flown to Harare from Namibia via Air Namibia.

Another 91 were expected last night and they will all be accommodated at the Rainbow Towers Hotel and will pay for their own upkeep.
