Prosper Chonzi appointed acting town clerk
HARARE City Council (HCC) health director Prosper Chonzi has been appointed acting town clerk for the next two weeks following the arrest of Hosea Chisango in Gweru last week over land issues.
Chisango has since applied for bail at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts in a case of fraud, criminal abuse of office and bribery in which he is jointly charged with housing director Admore Nhekairo and Samuel Nyabezi.
They will be back in court today for a bail ruling.
Harare municipality spokesperson Michael Chideme confirmed the latest development.
“Yes, Chonzi is now the acting Town Clerk and according to what he was told, he will act till month-end,” Chideme said.
As turmoil and infighting continue to rock the capital, HCC works director Zvenyika Chawatama was also suspended — without pay — for various acts of alleged misconduct and insubordination last week by Chisango before his arrest.
This is the second time Chawatama has been suspended within two years.
