THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) yesterday said it had to date arrested 417 833 people since March last year for violating regulations aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus.
ZRP said despite the lockdown regulations which exempt only essential service workers, indiscipline among Zimbabweans has become rampant.
Writing on its twitter handle yesterday, ZRP said that it had nabbed thousands of people for violating various Covid-19 regulations.
Last Thursday alone, the police said, 3 553 people were nabbed either for unnecessary movements or not wearing facing masks.
“The public is warned against complacency and wanton disregard of safety and health measures put in place to fight the pandemic. “A Bindura man was nabbed on Wednesday for breaching Covid-19 regulations at Madziwa Business Centre and then trying to bribe the arresting officer with a US$10 note
“On the same day in Beitbridge, 18 people were arrested for immigration related breaches while 59 were nabbed for Covid-19 related violations,” the police said.
This also comes as the police on Thursday arrested Norton Independent legislator Temba Mliswa for contravening Covid-19 lockdown regulations. Mliswa was picked up while having a press conference at his Borrowdale home in Harare where he was trying to clear his name against allegations made by his estranged girlfriend Susan Mutami.
